The Books & Posters
A school for (wonderful!) students ordered copies of The First Thirty for a 'common read' of the book among staff. A local company ordered additional copies of the book for one class of the school's high school-aged students. A local organization ordered copies of A Place To Sit (the companion workbook) as a gift for the school. In addition, a popular local ice cream shop ordered copies of the book posters for all of the school's elementary and middle school-aged students.
Pre-Visit
Teachers discussed the story with their students. In one case, the teacher did a lesson plan in class based on the book. In another case, the teacher had each student prepare a page with historical images and thoughts based on one of the book's thirty lessons.

The Visit
The school brought Greg to campus for an activity-packed one day visit. It began with an assembly for the high school students, followed by an assembly for the middle school students. Then, he guest lectured a 'Young Writers Workshop' for one class of the high school students. Then, he joined a selected group of the staff and students for lunch. Then, he met with the elementary school students & did a reading of The Milkshake Man for them. At the end of the day - given The First Thirty's connection to milkshakes, a popular local ice cream shop surprised all the kids & teachers with ice cream.
Sample of Pictures
Here are a sample of pictures from the visit - from the students' pre-visit work, the books, the posters, the visit (the assemblies, the Young Writers Workshop, the Reading, the ice cream social) and a stack of the thank you notes received from students after the visit. Such a fun day!
Sample of Feedback
Here is a copy of the letter received from one of the lead school administrators after the visit.
