Elementary School Age

Picture
After college, Greg became a substitute teacher. On the civic side, he started a mentoring program and a foundation. His efforts to help students have been featured by media like Education Week. He is a recipient of the Jefferson Award for Public Service and has been honored by groups like Simply Family. The books based on his story include a look at his efforts to help students -- and his own efforts as a student that shaped his lifelong interest in civic engagement.  SCROLL DOWN

The Milkshake Man (and its companion workbook, One Lunch) have been used by elementary schools, camps & youth-serving nonprofits with students (K-5th grade reading level). The First Thirty and its companion workbook (A Place To Sit) have been used by elementary schools, camps & youth-serving nonprofits with older students (e.g. 6th grade reading level and up) &/or staff. At elementary schools, the books & workbooks have been ordered for specific classes or 'all-school reads' (or all-staff reads). In some cases, schools have gotten the books for the kids as part of a 'common read' on a field trip or trip abroad. Youth-serving nonprofits have gotten the books for after-school programs or summer programs or for their staff.  SCROLL DOWN

For kids in older elementary school grades, Greg has spoken at assemblies & led Young Writers Workshops. At nonprofits, camps, and schools (and events like Readers are Leaders), he has done readings of The Milkshake Man for kids in the K-5th grade age range. In some instances, after the readings, the kids do an art/community service-related activity based on the story. In many cases, he has done events for teachers &/or nonprofit staff who work with elementary school-aged students SCROLL DOWN
