The Books
Throughout the 2012-2013 school year, a school for students with learning differences used The First Thirty in different ways. They did a 'common read' of the book among staff, had the Upper Division students read the books as well, and they did peripheral projects & had theme days at school based on parts of the book. The Visit
At the end of the school year, the school brought Greg to campus for two days. On day one, he did a presentation for the students & staff, answered questions they had about the story, went to lunch with some teachers, signed copies of the book, and took part in a 'milkshake reception' with the staff & students (based on a theme in the book). The next day, he served as the graduation / convocation speaker - he spoke & helped pass out awards to graduates during the ceremony and then did a book & poster signing for those in attendance. In conjunction, a number of local companies engaged in additional projects with the school, using the books. During the trip, Greg also spoke at a number of other local events.
