Photo Diary: South Africa
Greg served as American Scholar in Residence for a program in South Africa. As part of the trip, he also took part in a wide variety of activities including civic projects, book signings, hosting dinners, attending dinners, an exhibit of his art, entering a crocodile pit and, most of all, the chance to meet some extraordinary people in a beautiful country. This (below) is a sample of his photos from the trip. Click on the 1st picture below & then click on the arrows beneath the picture - to scroll through the photos & read Greg's diary. SAMPLE OF FEEDBACK:
Sannet, Quay Four (restaurant, South Africa): "I could not put The First Thirty down. I finished it early this morning [and just started it last night]...such an inspirational piece of literature...I hope Greg's energy and enthusiasm will rub off on many more people...The book based on his story has a fantastic message that our country sorely needs right now."
**Yasien M, South Africa: "If we can only have The First Thirty prescribed as a compulsory reading matter for [every] twelve year old in [South Africa], it will make a world of difference...."
**
Verity, recording artist, South Africa: "His story and vision are incredible. Very few people have the ability to cross divides and unite people and celebrate difference together. It is wonderful that who he is naturally allows that to happen…quite an experience in a country where we tend to stick to our safe little boxes of who and what we know....May he continue to uplift thousands as he goes."
**
Richard Freedman, National Director, South African Holocaust & Genocide Foundation: It was my great pleasure and honour to meet Greg and to have read [the book based on his story]. It has given me much food for thought and I am quite sure will resonate with me in the years to come. Today is Youth Day in South Africa which recognises the contribution that young people have made in the struggle against apartheid and the rebuilding of our country after apartheid. It is also meant to inspire young people to take on their own potential and to find their way in the world. His book shows how that is possible and that it mostly the curved line which offers the greatest opportunity for growth and for something special to be achieved. Thank you so much for sharing Greg's story. I am sure that he will continue to be a source of courage and inspiration to all who meet him and I hope that our paths will cross again."
