internship
If you are looking at this page 0n the website, you have been invited to nominate a student for a possible internship. To read more specific details about the internship - and to read about the criteria before nominating a potential intern - scroll down
DISCLAIMER ABOUT NOMINATIONS: Typically, there are just 1 or 2 interns per semester or summer. So, we are happy to provide the opportunity for the student to be considered, but no promise can be made that the student you nominate will get selected.
ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP: The internship is off-site so the student can be based anywhere. Typically, assignments are emailed to the intern. Then, the intern emails back the completed assignments. The internship is unpaid, but the hours are very flexible & revolve around the intern’s schedule. The internship is planned as a three month internship. Having said that, after three months, many previous interns have asked if they can extend the internship an additional semester or even longer. To read letters of reflection from some of those previous interns, click here. (In turn, there have been other instances where it becomes clear a new intern is not a good fit for the role and the internship ends ahead of schedule.) Since the internship is off-site, the interns do not have to spend time or money commuting to and from the office each day. The only cost an intern is expected to incur after becoming an intern is a one-time, tiny expense: new interns (after their internship begins) must come onto this website & order one book (and must take the time to read it). QUALIFICATIONS: Here are the Qualifications to consider when deciding whether you have a specific student you want to nominate for this internship opportunity:
- Full time student who will be entering junior or senior year of high school in Fall 2021, or entering college in Fall 2021, or already in college (or community college)
- A student you -- truly -- personally know and vouch for
- Outstanding conduct
- Extremely responsible, reliable, respectful, curious, trustworthy, hard working & kind
- Prompt without excuse or exception.
- There is no GPA “requirement” but it’s certainly great if they have good grades (If they don’t have good grades, we would rather they - for their sake - spend the extra time on their classes instead of taking on an internship)
- Must have their own computer / laptop / etc (so they can do their assignments on their own personal computer / not a shared public computer)
NOMINATION PROCESS: You are not being asked to 'spread' the word about this opportunity. Please do not send out an email to multiple people/students asking if anyone is interested. Please do not post anything about this opportunity online. Please just review the information above, and if you have one specific student you - truly - believe meets the criteria and you would strongly recommend (and if the student wants to be considered for the internship and their parent approves), please click here to let us know you have a specific student you'd like to nominate.
