Over the years, Greg has endured a variety of injuries & operations. In one case, he was injured while volunteering & had surgery on his spine. That experience, along with the time he spent in wheelchairs following four operations on his feet, gave him a better understanding of what people endure when encountering physical obstacles. In addition to his efforts related to cancer, his support for those who face physical obstacles has taken different forms, including: volunteering extensively with seniors, collaborating with the Minnesota Twins' AAA team to arrange a 'Day at the Ballpark' (photo) for kids who are blind &/or visually impaired ; lining up sponsors who have provided copies of the books for those who face physical obstacles (i.e. copies of The First Thirty for children who have survived domestic violence) & for caregivers who face physical obstacles (i.e. copies of The Silhouette Man for the staff of a community for people who are blind &/or visually impaired) ; writing articles for papers & magazines (such as, a column about the strength of people who are in wheelchairs); creating grants with The 11-10-02 Foundation to provide school supplies for students who are blind &/or deaf and have financial need; creating college scholarships with The 11-10-02 Foundation for students with financial need who are studying for careers in medicine & nursing; and creating college scholarships with The 11-10-02 Foundation for students with financial need & who have refused to let significant physical obstacles keep them from reaching college.
