personal background - health/fitness
Growing up, Greg played sports all throughout the year. As a teenager, he continued to participate in sports including baseball, basketball, football and cross-country. He devoted an increasing amount of time to health and fitness in college and the years right after -- especially weightlifting. For some time, in his late 20s, he was slowed down by a series of operations on his feet. During the process, he wrote a guest column entitled "Walking Is No Easy Feat" - reflecting on some of the life lessons he learned during the brief periods he was confined to a wheelchair. In 2008, Greg took part in his first triathlon -- on just two weeks notice. His sponsors for the race included NIKE. In 2009, he was given the chance to 'try out' for the Rochester Red Wings (AAA affiliate of the Minnesota Twins). His sponsors included Louisville Slugger. In late 2009, in a fluke accident while volunteering, Greg was severely injured -- leading to the loss of use of his leg and foot, surgery on his spine, the loss of a lot of weight, and a difficult road back. In the fall of 2011, after two long years, he took part in and completed a 5k race (pictured left).
