SAMPLE OF FEEDBACK ON THE MILKSHAKE MAN
Greg Peschel, Chief Executive Officer, Kerr County YMCA: "The Milkshake Man is a story that shows kids wondering how to bring a community together that they need only look outside their window to find a place to start... and to find a world ready for kindness... a celebration of mentoring... a powerful reminder that all of us have a responsibility to be more than a bystander in our community."
SAMPLE OF FEEDBACK ON ONE LUNCH (COMPANION WORKBOOK FOR THE MILKSHAKE MAN):
Maribel Herrera, Executive Director, Saturday Place: "One Lunch gives elementary school students the chance to reflect, discuss, engage and bring about change in their community."
SAMPLE OF FEEDBACK ON THE FIRST THIRTY:
Meagham, Teacher, Illinois: "...I have been using The First Thirty as a reading text with my 4th grade class. The kids are highly engaged in the story. The vignettes and lessons provide so many jumping off points for thoughtful, critical discussion. I bought each of my kids a copy of the book so that they could make it their own by writing notes in the margins and underlining sentences and phrases that really stood out to them. They have also populated their books with sticky notes filled with questions, connections, evaluations, and analysis... I think this book is a wonderful teaching tool because it addresses so many of the kinds of issues kids face – like teasing, bullying, respect, self-esteem, imagination, friendships, loss, facing challenging situations, overcoming setbacks and obstacles, race/ethnicity and a variety of other important life issues. As I mentioned, my kids love it! The book also provides many opportunities for writing extensions and could easily provide a starting point for social studies related discussions or art projects. The reading level is accessible to my 4th grade students, especially with my support, and would be great for [independent reading] for kids at the 5th or 6th grade reading levels [and up]..."
SAMPLE OF FEEDBACK ON A PLACE TO SIT (companion workbook for The First Thirty):
Jan Gillespie, Head of School, The Janus School (PA): "A Place To Sit supplies educators and school administrators with wonderful ideas to use with students of all ages and learning styles."
FEEDBACK SAMPLE FROM PREVIEW READINGS OF THE MILKSHAKE MAN -- PICTURE BOOK EDITION OF THE FIRST THIRTY
Ms. Pellecchia, Administrative Coordinator, Montessori Academy of Cincinnati: "Thank you so much to Greg for coming today!....
Everyone - students and teachers - thoroughly enjoyed his presentation. The Milkshake Man is wonderful; the message is so meaningful and inspiring. He captivated the children with every page he read. The [Q&A with the kids that] he led after the reading helped the students reflect not only on the content of the book, but of the important people and events in their lives, and how today may affect tomorrow. They and the staff left him feeling inspired! Thank you!"
SAMPLE OF EVENT FEEDBACK FOR TEACHERS/PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
Mr. Kallieris, Principal, Oak Terrace School: “….The faculty meeting was incredible…I've had numerous staff members state that he made them think about who we are as a school through a completely different lens. If our mission is achievement for all, then we all must think about ways to make this happen in our day-to-day life. It was a thought-provoking meeting that led our staff into prioritizing our mission for students.”
