books - health/fitness
The books based on Greg's story -- The First Thirty and expanded version The Silhouette Man -- highlight sports in a positive light as well as sports-relevant lessons related to leadership, teamwork, work ethic, perseverance & diversity that can be reinforced off the field. The First Thirty was NSDLC Multicultural Relations Book of the Year. A Place To Sit is the companion workbook that can be used with either book. It extracts the story's lessons and provides related projects, questions & ideas - including ones about Sports as well as others about related topics like leadership, teamwork & dealing with physical obstacles. College & pro sports teams & health & fitness-related organizations & camps have ordered copies of the books &/or workbooks for their own staff, team members, clients, donors, beneficiaries, local students in their respective communities &/or as gifts. In some cases, they have also sponsored contests based on the book in their communities.
Examples include: Toronto Blue Jays; Camp Menominee; Minnesota Vikings; New York Giants; USA Mobility, Inc; California Milk Advisory Board; St. John's University women's soccer team; General Mills; a chapter of The National Multiple Sclerosis Society as well as Youth Against MS; The Republic of Tea; Foot Associates of New York; Centerpoint Athletic Club, Wellbridge Athletic Club; and branches of GNC Live Well & Jamba Juice. In other cases, third parties have bought copies of the books for teams. For example, Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport ordered copies of The First Thirty for every player on the Rochester Red Wings (Minnesota Twins' AAA team) & a Chicago White Sox fan bought copies of The Silhouette Man for every player on the White Sox' AAA team. At the Baltimore Book Festival, Greg and former Baltimore Oriole Boog Powell were among the presenters. To order the books or workbooks for yourself or for others, click here
